Ayara Elephant Party: 12 May 2013

The Ayara Party is an annual elephant merit making festival held in Ban Mai Pattana Village of Sangkhlaburi District in Kanchanaburi Province. The festival starts with a classical dance performed by young female Karens and an elephant parade to Mai Pattana Temple. This is followed by a religious ceremony and chanting by monks. After that, the mahouts will bring the elephants to make merit in the Kratop Proey parade. The monks will bless the elephants, tie decorative ropes around the elephant’s legs and then feed the elephants. Food such as banana, sugar cane, jack fruit, watermelon and pineapple are decorated to look like a giant cake. This year the event is held on Sunday 12th May 2013 starting from 8 a.m.
