The colourful festivals of Songkran and Loy Krathong are well-known to tourists. However, Thailand has many more unique festivals that are not always found in guide books. Please contact us with news about your event.
| Bangsaen Wan Lai Songkran Festival: 16-17 April 2012 |

With no shortage of sand to build sand-stupas on Bangsaen Beach, the stupa building contest is a predominant element of the Songkran festivities in Chon Buri. Residents of the each of the villages in the district gather together to take part in community Buddhist merit-making. Monks are invited to conduct merit-making ceremonies and rituals, whilst local residents present merit-making offerings and sprinkle scented lustral water on Buddha images in a Songkran Thai New Year bathing ritual. Families pay respect to elderly relatives and other respected individuals. Festival highlights include the 'Kong Kao' (rice mound) religious ritual, rarely seen folk games and traditional Thai sports, Songkran beauty pageant and the Siracha Songkran Parade. Other activities include traditional folk games, including muay talay traditional boxing by the beach, and stalls offering local products and food.
