Date: Usually the first weekend in February 2016 (TBC)
Venue: King Rama II Memorial Park, Samut Songkhram
King Rama II, the second king of the Rattanakosin period, was known as “Ek Akkharakhattiyasinlapin,” or the Great Artist. Hailed as a ruler who contributed much to his country through his work in culture, he was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Person in 1968. To celebrate this event, Samut Songkhram Province, the King Rama II Memorial Park Foundation and TAT organize the “King Rama II Memorial Fair” every year in his honour. Over the weekend, there will be demonstrations of the Thai way of life during the reign of King Rama II, khon mask performances, Hun Krabok puppet shows, demonstrations of making food and Thai sweets and desserts, and sales of souvenirs and local products.
Please note, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening of the fair at 3pm on Saturday. Due to road closures in advance of this, it is advisable to go on the Sunday. While you are there, take the opportunity to enjoy the nearby Amphawa Floating Market.
