Date: 3-5 May 2015
Venue: Ban Na Sao in Chiang Khan district of Loei
In Northeastern Thailand, the buffalo is seen as the workhorse in many farming communities. Even though the animal has been replaced these days by modern machinery, the local people still pay respect to the beast that ploughed their field. In Ban Na Sao in Loei Province, they have been holding a ceremony for several generations where they pay tribute to the spirits of the buffaloes. On the second day of the festival, everyone dresses in colourful costumes and put on buffalo masks. They then take part in a parade through the village.
