To mark the start of the three month long Buddhist Lent, a number of big events in Surin are organized for local Buddhists and tourists. The festival features a candle parade from 12 famous temples in the province, the province’s traditional performances, and a grand elephant parade featuring 87 elephants. The highlight of this event is the alms giving on elephants’ back ceremony, which will take place on the second day from 7am onwards at the Monument of Phaya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Changwang in Surin. Senior Buddhist monks will ride the elephants to receive alms offered by the general public.
